08. Neruda Requiem Aeternam

8. Neruda Requiem Aeternam

Text by Mikis Theodorakis, on the death of Pablo Neruda. [In my opinion not inspired by the spirit and awareness of Pablo Neruda. When I read what Neruda writes for instance in Los Libertadores, about the tree, I can only conclude that Theodorakis did not understand Naruda, and prefers to drown in helplessness, a being lost. Neruda would never do this.]

Tears for the living.
America enslaved,
all people who are slaves
weaping.
You were the last sun;
now dwarfs rule,
the earth is bereft.

Lacrimae para los vivientes
América esclavizada
esclavos de todos los pueblos
lacrimosa
tú fuiste él último sol
ahora dominan los duendes
la tierra
está huérfana
